Care, research and education are the three mainstays of UMC Utrecht. These mainstays are inextricably intertwined in our ongoing efforts to improve people's health. Leading scientific research, groundbreaking innovation and collaboration with patients and other interested parties form the basis of our first-rate healthcare. UMC Utrecht is quick and eager to put improvements into practice. High-quality education guarantees the influx of new talent required to maintain and strengthen our position at the forefront of healthcare.

Mission

UMC Utrecht is a leading international university medical center generating, testing, sharing, and applying knowledge on health, illness, and health care for the benefit of patients and society.

In conjunction with patients

We seek collaboration with patients and other interested parties, for instance by involving them in research we conduct and asking them to play a part in education, participate in research and provide input on how healthcare should be organized. We also give patients control over their own medical treatment, tailored to their personal needs, enabling us to have a significant influence on people’s health here and now, but also elsewhere and in the future. 

Impact on health

UMC Utrecht aims to play a major role on the international research stage and play a leading role in research and innovation in a selected number of fields: the strategic programs. Only then can we have an impact on health. We aim to make the knowledge we create available for clinical and feasibility studies, and subsequently put that knowledge into practice. So our role is not limited to creating knowledge; we work hard to make the knowledge and skills gained within UMC Utrecht fit for actual clinical practice. That in turn results in products, processes and services for healthcare. We also stimulate new industriousness. By “marketing” our knowledge and skills, patients in other hospitals can benefit as well. 

Committed employees

Our employees are of overriding importance to UMC Utrecht. Consequently, we are eager for talented individuals to make a conscious decision to join UMC Utrecht because we prepare talented people for the future. Interaction with patients and the society we belong to is crucial in this respect. Employees are therefore selected and coached on the basis of the competencies required to achieve this. We provide outstanding, forward-thinking education and an environment in which students and employees can continue to develop their knowledge and skills, while feeling free to try out new methods and approaches.
