The current goal of the UMC Utrecht AI lab for Living Technologies is to create and use AI-based technologies in microscopy, bioprinting, and automation. The use of living cell technologies derived from patients is crucial in early-stage biomedical research and has the potential to advance personalized, regenerative, and curative treatments. By combining new AI techniques in computer vision and multivariate modeling with these living cell technologies, we can greatly enhance the impact of these technologies from basic research to clinical applications.

AI technologies will allow us to extract valuable information from images of cellular characteristics. They will also help us provide real-time feedback for automating cell assays and the creation of complex multicellular 3D living structures through bioprinting. The AI lab for Living Technologies will serve as an important facility for data analysis and modeling in biology. Our team of highly skilled AI scientists collaborates closely with biomedical researchers to develop and implement cutting-edge AI techniques. Additionally, we prioritize sharing best practices and offering education on the use of data and AI in fundamental and preclinical biology.
