Triggered by the position paper ‘Room for everyone’s talent’, Young SiT organized an online symposium on Recognition and Rewards (R&R) especially for Early Career Academics in September 2020. It was our first online event during the COVID-19 pandemic, but with more than 70 participants we look back at a very inspiring afternoon.
We kicked off with an inspiration movie from several R&R partners across the Netherlands (check it out here: LINK). De Jonge Akademie shared new R&R career perspectives with us and PNN (Promovendi Netwerk Nederland) shared the results of a large PhD survey with us (LINK). Seems there is still a lot of improvement for early career paths.
We closed the day with an interactive session led by Rick Bonants on how to develop a new online PhD Competence Tool, to shift the focus from bibliometrics to evaluation in various research competences. Curious? Check out the latest developments here [LINK].
In summary: Early Career Academics are involved in R&R. Our motive: changing the system shapes our future!
