Sleep hygiene and behavioural treatment techniques for sleep problems uitklapper, klik om te openen
Many people experience sleep problems during some phase in their lives. For some people these problems are transient and occur for example in a period of stress. However, many people experience persistent sleep problems that negatively influence their quality of life.
Sleep can be disrupted by biological, environmental and behavioural factors. The fact that behaviour has an important impact on the quality of our sleep, implies that sleep problems can be successfully treated by changing behaviour.
In this masterclass we will focus on two aspects of evidence-based behavioural treatment of sleep problems: sleep hygiene and restriction of time in bed. Sleep hygiene consists of conditions and practices that promote continuous and effective sleep, and is a condition sine qua non for all treatments of sleep problems. Restriction of time in bed is a technique to promote optimal sleep efficiency by synchronising time spent in bed to actual sleep time. During the masterclass, these topics will be discussed in an interactive way.
