High Field MRI
MR imaging is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that provides superior soft-tissue contrast in comparison to other imaging modalities. Common clinical scanners operate at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 or 3 Tesla. However, the UMC Utrecht hosts one MR system with a magnetic field strength of 7 Tesla for research purposes. MR imaging at 7 Tesla has provided impressive improvements for imaging techniques in the human brain in comparison to lower field strengths.
