ERC Starting and Consolidator Grants 2022 – Deadlines and Support
Good news! To support more researchers on personal grants, Research Support Office (RSO) at UMCU will offer an internal support program for 2022. This support is in addition to the central ERC support program at UU. The ERC's mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support frontier research across all fields, based on scientific excellence. Being 'investigator-driven', or 'bottom-up', in nature, the ERC allows researchers to identify new opportunities and directions in any field of research, rather than being led by priorities set by politicians. This ensures that funds are channelled into new and promising areas of research with more flexibility. The sole criterion for selection is scientific excellence.
ERC Starting Grant
- For investigators with 2–7 years since obtaining PhD. Possible extensions for MDs, maternity leaves, etc.
- Up to €1.5 million
- Up to 5 years
- Application deadline: January 13, 2022
Central Support via the UU
- Peer support by internal committee (December 6-10, 2021): register by November 10 and submit your proposal by November 29.
- Proposal Editing service (B1 only): An external advisor will review your B1, looking at the language and structure of the proposal.
Internal Support via the RSO
Intake session with an experienced grant advisor to discuss your idea, CV, and eligibility.
- Brainstorm session to align the project idea with the ERC requirements, structure your proposal, and set up a writing plan.
- One-time editing of Part B1 – submit your first draft of B1 by November 17, 2021 to receive feedback in time for the peer support review session.
- One-time editing of Part B2 – submit your first draft of B2 by December 15, 2021 to be edited in time.
- The signature for your Host Institute Letter – submit your template and signed oplegvel by December 15, 2021
- Budget justification and portal check – by December 15, 2021
- General support
ERC Consolidator Grant
- For investigators with 7–12 years since obtaining PhD. Possible extensions for MDs, maternity leaves, etc.
- Up to €2 million
- Up to 5 years
- Application deadline March 17, 2022
Support via the UU and RSO:
Similar to the Starting Grant support. Specific dates will be announced soon.
