Pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer with a 5 year survival of merely 5%. Up till now, surgical resection with tumor negative margins (R0 resection) is the only way to reach curation in pancreatic cancer. Of all pancreatic tumors, 80-90% is considered irresectable because of distant metastases (40-55%) or invasion of the tumor in adjacent organs or peripancreatic arteries or veins (40%). For patients with irresectable tumors, palliation is the only remaining option.
