Originally trained as a pharmacist, Mira Zuidgeest worked in the field of pharmacoepidemiology on the topic of childhood asthma for several years. This work got her interested in clinical trials. Mira believes that to advance medical care we need to advance medical research. Specifically, she aims to investigate interventions closer to the patients’ actual experience and real-life use; for instance by moving clinical trials to the home environment administering medication at the doctor’s office or at home, rather than in a highly controlled environment. She brings her impressive network among pharmaceutical companies, Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and patient organizations and regulatory bodies to partnerships that bring together the UMC Utrecht and external partners, in order to improve clinical trials that accelerate innovations helpful to patients.
