Radionuclide therapy
Our nuclear medicine department is specialized in treatment of patients with Beta-emtting radionuclides and radiopharmaceutical. Patients with thyroid problems are routine treated with radioiodine. Patients with bone metastases are treated with 223radium (XofigoTM). The UMC Utrecht was also first in treating patients with liver malignancies by injecting microspheres loaded with either holmium-166 or yttrium-90 in the hepatic artery for selective treatment. Also several studies are being performed with the aim to optimize radioiodine-131 treatment of patients with thyroid cancer.
